19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
